Wanstead
Place where working-class folk with a bit of cash crash for proximity to central London?
Aspiring Essex sorts who wanted out of Ilford?
Faux gentrified ‘island’ with one expensive butcher and a motorway through the middle?
Or none of the above because we’re all reductionist cunts on WHO and stereotype everything?

loved growing up there in the 70's still retains an air of opulence, if i had to move back to that part of the world i still think Wanstead would be my place of choice , the Nightingale pub holds some wonderful memories for me .

I don't like men (they're horrid). And certainly don't like women. I'm waiting until a third sex emerges, and maybe I'll give that one a go.

A good mate moved there during Covid and I went to see him recently. Hadn't been out there for a while.
I enjoyed it. Nice place, refreshingly "normal" folk and some good pubs.

Is it The Duke or The Nightingale that is Lampards place? Both decent boozers.

My brother still lives in just off nightingale lane, its nice round there, his garden backs on to the school playing fields. He extended the old 3 bed into what is now a 7 bed house for some reason

OiOi,
Yeah, the Nightingale is Frank Snr's pub. Very nice, too. Nipped in there for a couple and a good catch-up with a few folk I hadn't seen for a while.
Ended up in the Duke a bit later.

Who was the heavy metal band that used to drink in the Nightingale years back? I've forgotten.

I spent the first afternoon when you could drink outside a pub at The Duke.
Can't remember getting home.

5 decent pubs that should cater for everyone's needs.
Hipster Chippy, Fishmongers & Butchers. Pie & Mash shop.
Nice high street with a few interesting shops, Cafes & delis.
Provender Brasserie is the best restaurant for miles.in any direction.
Lovely big old houses and a nice park.
Tube station.
What's not to like?

Oh yeah, I forgot about Robins. Seating's a bit tight but great p&m.
The George before a game is a decent drink too. Station opposite, 3 stops from Stratford. Lovely.

The Holly Tree. More Forest gate than Wanstead. Proper London pub.
Used to have music in the back bar. My mates jazz band played there a lot.

For those of us from Leytonstone E11, we were always the rough side and Wanstead/Snaresbrook E11 the posh side
